Dr. Virna Dwi Oktarina Asrory graduated in 1999, became an ophthalmologist in 2004 and finished her PhD in 2016 at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Indonesia. She served as a fellow and went for short courses in several institutions such as the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital Melbourne in 2007, the Royal Perth Hospital/Lions Eye Institute Perth in 2011, and the Universitay Hospital Basel in 2011. In 2012, she worked on the Ultrasound Biomicroscopy at the National University Hospital Singapore. During her PhD program, Dr. Virna received a patent for the Virna Glaucoma Implant, which is currently being used to treat glaucoma in Indonesia.​

Dr. Virna is an Associate Professor in the Ophthalmology Department FMUI for medical students, registrars and fellows. She is involved in research and publications, and currently serves as the chair of the Indonesian Glaucoma society, which is actively organising conferences and webinars to spread glaucoma awareness in Indonesia. She is also a board member of Asia Pacific Glaucoma Society since 2022.
