Munkhtuya Tsegmid

Dr. Munkhtuya. Ts is a glaucoma consultant,  adult cataract surgeon. Currently, she is  working as a Senior Glaucoma - Cataract Consultant  at Gerel Eye Clinic, Department of Ophthalmology at the Second State Central Hospital and General Hospital for State Special Servants.  

She is involved in the residency training program in Ophthalmology at the Shastin Third Central Hospital. She also worked at the Department of Ophthalmology, Shastin Third Central Hospital and Erdenet Medical Hospital during 2004 - 2021. 

She graduated from the National Medical University of Mongolia as a Medical Doctor with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1998. She completed her residency training in Ophthalmology and earned  her Master of Science degree in Medicine from the same University. She  went to the Aravind Postgraduate Institute, Tamil Nadu, India for a long term Fellowship in Glaucoma in 2009.  

She was the first to perform MIGS and Glaucoma Drainage Device surgeries in Mongolia.  Her  passions include making eye examinations and surgeries accessible for patients in rural settlements outside of the capital city, often thousands of kilometers away from main health care providers, where eye care is rare. She is also an avid supporter of teaching local ophthalmologists to improve their skills in performing surgeries independently. 

Dr. Munkhtuya was awarded the Outstanding Service in Prevention of Blindness Award by the Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology .  

She is also a  member of the Mongolian Ophthalmologist’s Society and the Asia Pacific Glaucoma Society.
