Andrew is a consultant at Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, Edinburgh, Scotland.

He completed his glaucoma fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and at Shiley Eye Institute, University of California, San Diego.

His research interests focus on imaging, remote disease monitoring, glaucoma surgery and new methods of drug delivery. Andrew is a member of the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) Executive Committee, co-chair of the EGS Scientific Committee and a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists’ Scientific Committee. In his spare time, he is a qualified classifier for the British Paralympic Association.

Dr. Norman M. Aquino is an Associate Professor of the University of the Philippines. He is the Chief of the Glaucoma Service of the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital.

He also is the head of the Glaucoma Section of the American Eye Center. Dr. Aquino is a founding member and a Past President of the Philippine Glaucoma Society.

Prof. Quaranta is a Director of the School of Specialization in Ophthalmology, University of Pavia, and a Director of the Ophthalmology Clinic of Foundation & Policlinico in San Matteo, Pavia.

Having completed more than 7,000 operations for glaucoma, cataract, corneal transplantation and other pathologies of the anterior segment
and of the adnexa, he showcasing high degrees of competence in the diagnosis and treatment of major eye diseases, and frequently receives patients from all over Italy for second opinions on complex cases of glaucoma.

In terms of academia, Prof. Quaranta has 188 publications in the main international journals, and is the co-author of 5 monographs and 12 book chapters, as well as a book for medical students.

Kessara PATHANAPITOON MD, PhD

Dr Pathanapitoon is currently the Professor with the Department of Ophthalmology in Chiang Mai University while maintaining her position as the Head of Glaucoma and Uveitis unit.

She had completed a Fellowship in Uveitis and Glaucoma with the University of British Columbia, Canada in 1999 and PhD in Uveitis from Utrecht University, the Netherland in 2005.

Kyung Rim Sung, MD, PhD

Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan, College of Medicine, Seoul, South Korea

She is a Professor and the Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Asan Medical Center, University of Ulsan College of medicine. She is the current Director for the Scientific Program of Korean Glaucoma Society, Director of the Scientific Program of Korean Ophthalmologic Society, Co-chair of Scientific program of 2021 Asia Pacific Glaucoma Congress.

She graduated from the Seoul National University, Medical School and completed her fellowship at the Asan Medical Center and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Her research interests include pathogenesis of angle-closure glaucoma, pseudoexfoliation, glaucoma imaging, and basic research related to gliosis and glaucoma. She received several worldwide renowned awards including the AAO achievement award and published 142 peer reviewed article in international journals.

Makoto Aihara

President, Japan Glaucoma Society

Prof. Makoto Aihara graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Tokyo, and Post-graduate School of Medicine, majoring lipid mediator and neuro-biochemistry, and received M.D. and PhD. He next stayed in University of California, San Diego as a research scientist, and conducted basic research work using mouse glaucoma model and published many articles.

After returning University of Tokyo, he continued clinical and basic research works and now he is a professor and a chair of the Ophthalmology. He received several honours and published over 200 peer-reviewed journals. His research interests are IOP regulation, aqueous humor dynamics, ocular pharmacology, glaucomatous optic neuropathy, and lipid mediators.

Currently, he serves as the president of the Japan Glaucoma Society and is a board member of the Japanese Ophthalmological Society, Neuro-ophthalmology, Ocular pharmacology, and APGS.
